๐ Lesson: Type Capital L (Uppercase L)
To type a capital L, hold the left Shift key with your left pinky and tap L with your right ring finger. These 4 exercises build the Shift habit โ from single capitals to whole capitalised words โ while a live keyboard shows the exact fingers to use.
How to Type a Capital L (Uppercase L) Correctly
A capital L is the uppercase version of the letter l. On the home row, L belongs to your right ring finger. To make it uppercase, hold the left Shift key with your left pinky โ always the Shift on the opposite hand โ press L, then release both. Using the opposite hand keeps both hands moving smoothly and is the standard touch-typing technique.
Capital L starts sentences and names such as Lantern, Lemon and Lotus, so it is worth practising until the Shift motion feels automatic. This lesson uses four short drills: single capitals, capital-plus-lowercase pairs, capitalised words and a short run of mixed words, so you practise both pressing Shift and letting go of it again.
Prefer Shift over Caps Lock for a single capital: Caps Lock is for typing whole words in UPPERCASE, and forgetting to turn it off is a common beginner slip. If you have not learned the lowercase key yet, start with the lowercase letter L.
Hold the left Shift key with your left pinky, press L with your right ring finger, then release both keys. Do not use Caps Lock for a single capital letter.
Your right ring finger presses L, while the left pinky holds the left Shift key. Using the opposite hand for Shift keeps typing fast and balanced.
Shift makes only the next letter uppercase and is the right choice for a single capital L. Caps Lock keeps every letter uppercase until you press it again, so it suits whole words in capitals.
