🖐️ Lesson: Type the Letter K

K is typed with your right middle finger and is one of the four main right-hand home-row anchor keys. It sits directly under your right middle finger, next to J and L. These 4 exercises build your muscle memory from a single tap all the way up to a five-letter run. Keep your eyes on the text above, not on your hands.

How to Type the Letter K Correctly

The letter K is one of the main right-hand home-row keys used by touch typists. It is pressed with your right middle finger. Keep your other right-hand fingers resting naturally on J and L while your middle finger presses K.

This lesson uses four short drills — a single tap, a double tap, a triple tap, and a building rhythm from one to five letters — so your right middle finger learns the exact position and movement needed to hit K accurately and consistently without looking at the keyboard.

Which finger types the letter K?

Your right middle finger. When your right hand is correctly positioned on the home row, your middle finger should rest naturally on K. Press K with a small, controlled downward tap while keeping your other fingers relaxed.

Why learn K on the home row?

K is one of the main right-hand home-row keys. Practicing K helps your right middle finger learn its home-row position and builds the foundation for accurate touch typing.
